POSITION SUMMARY

The Junior Underwriter will support  the underwriting & pricing of Fully-Insured Large Group in-force (renewal) & prospective (new business) employer groups, composing rate analyses, communicating pricing decisions with Sales, maintaining the underwriting pricing log & related management reporting tools, and related accounting or other financial tasks as needed.   

DESCRIPTION

  • With guidance from the Senior Underwriter, apply fundamental Underwriting & Pricing principles to review Large Group insurance cases , assess losses & risk and make premium recommendations to ensure rate sufficiency.
  • Present fully-insured pricing recommendations to the Senior Underwriter for review, guidance, and ultimate presentation to the Underwriting Committee for approval and release to Sales.
  • Prepare professional and intelligible exhibits illustrating expected claim liability and premium rate calculations, for both internal and external audience, as necessary.
  • Support monitoring the company’s financial performance across the Large Group book of business using the monthly loss reports & similar tools.
  • Support the Product Development team in designing an attractive and competitive portfolio of plan offerings.
  • Maintain and enforce Underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Update pricing, valuation, and forecasting models, as directed.
  • Support onboarding of ASO clients.
  • Other accounting or financial analyses or tasks as needed.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree in the field of Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics.
  • Minimum of three to five years underwriting or actuarial experience.
  • Knowledge of the health insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of ASO stop-loss quoting a plus.
  • Creative and strategic mindset.
  • Strong work ethic, efficient time management skills, excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Solutions oriented, with an emphasis on accuracy.
  • Strong working knowledge of data analysis and presentation and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SQL.
  • Professional designations such as CEBS, ChFC, RHU desirable.
